Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri  Mainly focusing on the views of the Himalayas, Sherpa villages, Monasteries, Sagarmatha National Park, Syangboche Airstrip, This trip is most likable for those looking to experience the unique and extreme landscape of Eastern Nepal (including Himalaya), observing ethnic tribes and explore varieties of flora and fauna. This is the breathtaking walking trip to Everest Region. For this trek to be successful one needs to have a good walking experience and a good physical health condition.

This trek is exclusive with the panoramic view of Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8152m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m) and Ama Dablam (6456m). We also have to cross through the famous Sherpa Villages of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Buddhist Monastery, Khunde Khumjung etc.

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu (1345m/4412ft) and briefing in the evening

Arrival in Kathmandu, our airport representatives will receive you there and transfer you to the hotel for the further briefing of the journey ahead.

Day 2
Sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley

After breakfast, we go for full day sightseeing and visit World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley which includes Swayambhunath Stupa / Monkey Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple.

Day 3
Drive Kathmandu – Jiri (1905m/6250ft) – Bhandar (2190m/7185ft) - (6-7 hrs)

From Kathmandu, we take the drive to Jiri. You can enjoy the river Koshi and some of the majestic Himalayan views of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang lieu, and Dorje Lakpa. This is also the starting point of our journey for trekking. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 4
Trek to Sete (2645m/8677ft) – Approx 6 hours

Today we start our trekking from Jiri. Following the deep forest some streams then pass along some villages of Dokarpa & Baranda, we reach to Sete after crossing a valley and climbing small settlement of village Kenja. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 5
Trek to Junbensi (2675m/8776ft) - Approximately a 6 hours.

From Sete we trek to Junbensi, it is 6 hours of walk offering panoramic views of green mountains, also we pass through Lamjura La Pass the highest point on the way to Jiri & Namche Bazar. In Junbesi we spend the day & overnight stay. You can visit the village & know little about the people in here. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 6
Trek to Nunthala (2330m/7645ft) - Approx 6 hrs.

From Junbesi we trek to Nunthala taking approximately 6 hours. This tour is very mesmerizing with views of mountains including, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Thamseruku, Mera Peak & many other high mountains. After crossing some of the villages, rhododendrons forests, terraced fields, we will finally arrive Nunthala for our overight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 7
Trek to Khari Khola (2040m/6692ft) – Approx 5 hour

From Nunthalam, we trek around 5 hours before reaching Khari Khola, our destination for today's overnight stay. On the way we descend to Dudh Koshi, cross suspension bridge & overnight stay is at one of the densely packed areas with Rais & Sherpas. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 8
Trek to Surkhe (2290m/7282ft.) - Approx 7 hours

From Khari Khola, we are ready to trek to Surkhe enjoying the Khari La Pass of Gyachung Kang & Khumbila mountains among other mountains. Then, finally, after some ups & downs, we reach to Surkhe for the overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 9
Trek to Phakding. (2610m/8560ft) – Approx 5-7 hour

From Khari Khola, we walk for approximately 5 hours before reaching to Phakding, our destination for today. This is one of the most interesting & popular places, here we can camp by the river. Overnight stay in Phakding. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 10
Trek to Namche Bazaar. (3440m/11290ft) – Approx 5 hour

From Phakding we trek to Namche Bazaar which is the famous touristic area in this region. The trek is mesmerizing with blue sky above and stunning boulders with great landscapes. Overnight is at Namche Bazaar. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 11
Namche Bazaar Acclimatization day.

Instead of sitting all day in Namche all day, the acclimatization is best done with the hike that is by hiking up to to the valley of Bhote Koshi River (“River from Tibet”). Today we will hike in the daytime and sightsee around Bazaar in the evening. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 12
Trek to Tyangboche (3860m/12660ft) – Approximately five hours.

The trek from Namche to Tengboche is unbelievably stunning, Far below is the Dudh Koshi and Thamserku, Kantenga, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest rises in front. Woods, Rhododendron Forest, Mani Walls, Chorten (Stupas), and suspension bridges across the rivers make this a lovely walk. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 13
Trek to Dingboche (4360m/14300ft) – Approx. 5 hrs.

Through Tyangbocke we trek to Dingboche, in Dingboche we can enjoy the scenic views of Ama Dablam. Dingboche is the only place in the region where barley is produced. Tame pheasants are regularly seen in this area. Overnight stay in here. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 14
Lobuche (4940m/16207ft) – Approx. 5 hrs.

The ascent towards Everest Base Camp continues through Alpine meadows and summer yak pastures towards the end of the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. At the moraine, there are stone monuments to six sherpas who died in the avalanche, as well as monuments to other climbers. From here, it is a steep, tough climb towards the village of Gorak Shep. Continue on towards Lobuche, where the view is straight towards Nuptse and the sunset is truly magnificent. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 15
Trek to Everest Base Camp (5300m/17400ft) - back to Gorak Shep (5170m/16961ft) – Approx 6 hours

The higher altitude makes this day's trekking quite challenging. The Changri Glacier looms ahead as the trek heads for Gorakshep, a small, usually frozen, lake, by lunchtime. Relax and get adjusted to the altitude before the attempt to reach Everest Base Camp. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 16
Hike up to Kala Patthar (5545m/18192ft) then trek to Periche (4270m/14070ft) - Approx 7 hours.

Try to see a different view of Everest today, with a trek up to Kala Pattar. Known to have the best views of Everest, this is a challenging trek, but worth it on a clear day. Begin the descent from Kala Pattar, heading for Pheriche. This is not the most challenging of hikes, but the altitude can make the many uphill sections below Gorakshep seem tough. Stop to look around; the views are quite spectacular. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 17
Trek from Pheriche To Phortse. (3810m/12550ft) Approximately 5 hours.

Today we trek from Pheriche to Phortse, enjoying the stunning views of mountains finally reaching remote village Phortse. Our overnight stay is alt Phortse. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 18
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11290ft) – Approximately 5 hours

Again, we are back to Namche Bazaar this time you can buy special souvenirs in this area and may be taken al piece of memory back your home for your memory. Our overnight stay is at Namche. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 19
Namche to Lukla (2840m/9320ft) – Approximately 6.5 hours.

From Namche, we trek back to Lukla. It is around 7 hours of trek, surrounded by Mountains and great landscapes, we arrive Lukla for our overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Day 20
Fly back to Kathmandu and join in cultural dinner program

We take the flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying the beautiful sceneries we conclude today's journey with cultural dinner program in the evening.

Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner and finally overnight stay in hotel.

Day 21
Rest day Shopping/ Leisure.

Today we shop around Kathmandu in Thamel. Maybe buy some souvenirs for friends and family at home or take rest and go to a spa.

Day 22
Departure to Destination Country.

Today is the departing day or you can join for another thrilling adventure. We can right away arrange your awesome trip.

Useful information

Trekking Group Size

We organize trekking for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members ) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.

Experience and Health Requirements

Jiri to Everest trekking ranges forms moderate to strenuous. And is suitable for those who can hike for 6 – 8 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however, our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching Jiri to Everest base camp. No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.

Travel Insurance

Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide traveling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the traveling insurance from one of the international insurance companies.Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.

Accommodations

Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability ) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.

Meals

Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during Jiri to Everest base camp trekking. They can enjoy a wide variety of food from typical Nepali food, Sherpa food, Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian.). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise Adventure Trek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel/lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, a set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges/hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.

Acclimatization

Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physical fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly especially at the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it.

Equipment and Packing List

A variety of clothing is necessary for the Jiri to Everest base camp trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers to need to give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason, you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

Although our trek leaders are not highly educated, they are well experienced, professionally trained and posses good leadership skills to operate the trip smoothly. Their smiling faces, loving and caring attitude will make your even a hard walking day a pleasant one. All trekking staff of Sunrise Adventure Trek are locally employed and have the adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, history and the safety measures in running the trips. Their attitude and the efforts will be always concentrated on the less impact of the trekkers to the local culture, custom, nature and the eco system.

Porter Care

We are strongly committed to the porter's rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, footwear, and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If the needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of the severing condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.

Season

Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Everest region are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (mid-Sept. – mid-Dec.). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against a blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February. Jiri to Everest base camp trekking can be done even during the monsoon season but not recommended. There a few avalanches prone area in this trekking route which makes it dangerous for trekking in the winter season.

  • 1. How difficult is trek to Everest Base Camp via Jiri and how can we prepare?

    Trek to Everest region is very challenging and life changing experience can be attainable by many people nowadays. Our company provides you a porter and a guide with policy or travel insurance. As altitude is one of the main reasons of sickness, people with very weak ankles, knee, hearts and lungs will not be appropriate for such trekking. It’s not just like a walk around the park; there are numerous ups and downs during trekking. So, you should be well prepared for trekking.

  • 2. What about safety measurements and altitude sickness do the guides and porters have their insurance in Everest Base Camp trek?

    Worrying for safety measurements?  Our guides having long experience are much professional for handling such issues with various means of safety measurements. For common health issues like: headache, common cold, diarrhea, vomiting, we provide you first aid medicines. In case of being sick in the mountain, Sunrise Adventure Trek will make proper arrangements rescue by helicopter, for this you should have better travel insurance. If our guide and porters may suffer from sickness, they have also travel and medical insurance and we will also rescue by helicopter.

  • 3. What about guide & porter, do they have well training?

    Guides and potters provided to our guests had complete accomplishment of several trainings required for their professions by the Ministry of Nepal Tourism. Having well experience in tourism sector as a guide or potter, make easy to explain all the information required for trekking and can create very familiar environment to the guests.

  • 4. What about communication system during trek?

    As all the porters and guides are well certified by the Ministry of Nepal tourism they can easily understand and speak English languages during the trek. On the other hand, we can also provide you guides and potters according to your own understanding languages.

  • 5. Do I need to give tips to guide and potter and if how much?

    It’s difficult to mention about tipping which is up to your happiness, but guides and potters do expect the tips at the end of the trip. However, normally people can give minimum 10% of their total payment to the guide and porter.

  • 6. What kind of food, drinking water and accommodation do we have on Everest Base Camp trek?

    Trek to Everest Base Camp with Sunrise Adventure Trek includes trekking lodges or guest houses as accommodation with twin bed sharing room, if you are in a group and if you are solo traveler, you have private room.  Regarding meals, we will have some options to choose like: continental foods, Italian, Indian and Chinese cuisine etc. For drinking water, you can buy the mineral bottles or safe drinking water from hotel either you can bring water tablets.

  • 7. How many hours should I walk per day and what happened if I am a slow walker in the group?

    Normally, we have to walk around 5 to 7 hours per day, if you are slow in walk the team leader will professionally manage to you walking with our assistance guide and potter.

  • 8. What about the weather conditions and Lukla flight?

    Firstly, we have to take a flight to Lukla in the morning then we start trek from Lukla but sometimes due to the air traffic and weather problems, the flight may be delayed or canceled. Due to uncertainty of Lukla weather, we are not sure about the untimed flight. If there will be frequent weather problem, we do arrange a flight by helicopter chopper and for this you have to pay additionally.

  • 9. What is the limitation of weight to Lukla flight and where do I store my extra bags?

    You can carry 10 kg luggage plus 5 kg hand bag and if you want to carry more than the limit you have to pay extra charges. You can keep your extra bags in your hotel or in the office in Kathmandu.
