Kathmandu is capital of Nepal which is famous for the many medieval temples arts and architectures, world Buddhist largest monastery, hometown of Sherpa’s.   1. How can I get Nepal Visa?

 

    Nepal Tourist Visa Information

Tourist Visiting Nepal is eligible for The Tourist Visa on Arrival at the Port of Entry. However, Tourists holding the passport of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afagisthan and Palestine are not eligible for on arrival visa at the Port of Entry. It is issued and may be extended at a time or several times, till the visit but not exceeding 150 day in one year from January to December.

Application for the Visa should be submitted to the Immigration Officer at the Port of Entry or Diplomatic Missions or Consuls of Nepal aboard. Application for extension of the Visa should be submitted to the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Immigration Office at Pokhara. Single and multiple entry facilities are available with the Visa. However, Plain Visa is also available at the time of extension.

  1. How should I prepare for trekking in Nepal?

Before trekking, we should consider you to prepare mentally and physically and aftermath is easy we Sunrise Adventure trek will arrange your all complete trekking package from your arrival to departure. You should bring following things:

You should change money because it’s hard to find changes in remote areas. Also do not trek alone if possible, make sure your trekking pass is booked in advance and get some information before trek.

  1. What’s the best time to visit Nepal?

Nepal is always best time to visit for the adventure traveler. September to December is the main peak season and next  February to May is the second best season.

Beside this you can visit any time of the year for daring adventure. Also, pre-booking is better during peak season because most of the transportations, flights, hotels, guides and porters are booked already before a month earlier.

  1. What health precautions should be taken before visiting Nepal?

Health should be taken seriously.It is better if you vaccinate for Japanese Encephalitis before traveling here. Also eat only thoroughly cooked foods and drink mineral water from reputed manufacturer. Beside this other soft drinks are perfectly safe and you might consider not eating street foods.

  1. What’s the weather like in the high-altitude areas?

Weather can be sometime cold as expected in high-altitude areas during winter but it is considerably difficult to predict. During winter (January & February) it is cold during night as well as day but if by luck sun is out, days can be quit warm. Other seasons are also cold for quite a bit but not like winter. All the way, be ready for adventure & make sure to stay warm.

  1. What are the most popular trekking routes in Nepal?

Everest Base Camp Trekking and Annapurna Circuit, Lantang, Manalsu etc are the most popular routes for trekking but there are lot of routes you might be interested. With various routes ranging from short & long, high & low, snow-capped & in valleys, through rivers, water-falls and lakes, there are many routes which are pre-plane or you can be tailor your own route.

  1. What about airport transfers?

  1. Where do I obtain a visa?

You can obtain visa after arrival in entry point. You will need right amount of USD, or Nepali rupees with two passport size photographs and have to complete necessary forms.

  1. Why do we need travel insurance?

For relaxed trip you will need travel insurance. Travel insurance varies with the kind of adventure that you are about to undertake. Usually group tours do not need insurance but it is better if you have one. Likewise, some serious adventures including Expeditions and Nepal  Trekking might need travel insurance. You should provide us all the documents to complete the formalities that can be helpful for us to rescue in case of emergency.

You should carefully select the policy that covers the overall itinerary details like helicopter and medical rescue with medical expenses for serious undertaking. And note that in Nepal you cannot get travel insurance.

  1. What currencies are acceptable and what about ATMs?

All most of the travel agencies, hotels and other similar agencies accept USD, Euros and Pounds but while you in travelling it is better if you convert it in Nepali rupee because in small shops and other places during the tour or trekking, it might be hard to trade.

ATM in Nepal accepts most of the cards with priority in Visa, MasterCard & American Express and the cash is converted in Nepali rupee during transaction. Kathmandu & Pokhara are main places with ATM services but slowly they are introduced in other areas too.

  1. Is there an orientation meeting before the trek?

Yes, there will be orientation meeting before the trek. Normally meetings are held in the around evening time at your hotel. You will be pre-informed for the meeting upon your arrival in Kathmandu.

  1. What will a typical trekking day is like?

Trekking days will depend on which month you are travelling. Usually you will trekking up-to maximum of 8 hours per day. The trekking might be challenging if you are reasonably fit but it won’t be that exhausting. Many trips are designed with comfortable distance so that you can be ready for next day.

  1. What kind of meals can I expect during the trip?

Most of the popular trails there is pretty option to choose meals from continental, Italic, Chinese, Indian etc menus including different soups, rice dishes and noodles. But on least popular trails and remote areas the option are limited with typical Nepali meal like Dal Bhat and curry or instant noodles.

  1. What about alcoholic beverages?

You must avoid alcoholic beverages in case you are going in high-altitude, it’s because alcohol may cause dehydration. In the same way, Smoking, sleeping pills and sedatives may hamper you by decreasing blood flow in your brain and in high altitude oxygen is low. So, alcoholic beverages are not encouraged.

  1. Who will be part of my trekking team?

As a part of your trekking team, Sunrise Adventure Trek can manage Guide(s) and porter(s) according to the group and load you ought to carry while trekking. Basically your team will comprise of you, your group, guide(s) and porter(s). so you don’t worry about the trek all we do manage wisely.

  1. What about communication while we’re on the trek?

Somewhat communication is possible in many of the trekking trails with exception in some of the extremely rural areas. In that case you should carry satellite phone for communication, cell phone.

  1. Can I charge phones and camera batteries along the trek?

Of course! You can charge your gadgets in many of the lodges while on the trek but you will need to pay extra. It is better to bring in portable solar or extra battery because most of the trekking lodges with charging facility is more like hit or miss thing.

  1. Is safe drinking water available at teahouses?

Nice question. And yes, bottled mineral water is available in almost every teahouse while trekking. You need to purchase it and as higher you go the cost of mineral water also goes up. If you want to enjoy river water of Himalayas, you might need water filtering tablets like iodine/water guard.

  1. Should I bring food with me?

Many trekkers bring high energy foods & beverages and it is seen to be very useful. So, you might also consider bringing some high energy packed foods which are lightweight like granola bars & chocolate bars. To note; beef & pork are not encouraged because of cultural belief but many trekkers seem to bring it with them (now-a-days Nepali people are more aware so many of them may not mind).

  1. What happens if there’s an emergency or extreme altitude sickness?

First of all you will be treated with first aid (some Dilamox/Zolamide) then taken to lower altitude & if the condition is extreme you will be rescued by helicopter for this your travel insurance will cover the rescue expenses. So, many trekkers choose travel insurance before the trek. For convenience, some famous routes have medical and small pharmacies for mild injuries.

  1. Are your trekking crews insured?

Yes, all Sunrise Adventure Trek guides, porters and all staffs are insured by the company so you have to be sure and go trekking with the insurance guide and porters so for this choose your best and reliable trekking company. Also, it is better if you insure yourself and hit relaxed adventure that lies ahead.

  1. How about our guides and porters ?

Our all guides and porters are friendly and professional have long experienced as well as having proper knowledge in this trekking field since long years. Our guides are licensed by government with necessary training form the ministry of the tourism board.

  1. Does your company accept credit cards and foreign currencies?

Yes, our company accepts credit cards and transaction relating your payments can be done from it. Basically, American Express, MasterCard, Paypal, Maestro & Visa are preferred. We do accept foreign currencies like Chinese, Euro, Pound, Dollar etc.

  1. What extra expenses should I expect?

Extra expense depends entirely upon you. If you like to buy mineral water, do hot water shower in mountain, electronic charges, hard drnks and soft drinks & toiletries in the Himalayas then around USD 12 to 15 is enough on daily basis. While in Kathmandu expenses can range on what you eat to what service you are expecting.

  1. What about tipping?

Tipping in Nepal is not mandatory but it is expected at the end of the trip. Normally  tipping minimum 10% of your total payment. But you can tip according to your happiness and satisfaction, performance and their behavior.

  1. What are some basic Nepali customs that I should know about?

Nepali custom is not that different from other Asian countries you should:

  1. Take off shoes & ask for permission before entering Temples or houses
  2. Public display of affection such as kissing are considered offensive
  3. Before taking photograph, check whether it is allowed or not
  4. Nepalese eat with hand, although they eat with fork & spoon in hotels and restaurants
  5. Nepalese don’t eat beef
  6. Nepalese behave guest as god in our custom so guests are warmly treated
  1. What if I arrive early or depart late? Can you arrange extra nights’ lodging? Is there a single-room option?

What are the 8 world highest mountains in Nepal?
