 Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Trek provides you an opportunity to explore the beautiful floras and faunas of Khumbu region along with unique culture of local people living there. Here the trek offers you panoramic views of stunning mountains like: Mt. Ghauri Shankar (7145m\23441ft.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m\22929ft.), Mount Everest (8848m\29028ft.) and many more. During the trek you can observe the breath taking views of waterfalls, ancient monasteries and glaciers. This trek also provides you a great chance to explore the famous “Sherpa” culture along with other, Brhamin, Chetri, Gurung etc, their unique traditions and rituals. Amazing wild animals like: musk deer, blue sheep, wild yaks, leopards with beautiful rhododendron forest provides you unforgettable moments.   

Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Trek is located in the vicinity of the Everest base camp, and Langtang regions. Views of the Mt. Ghauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, Mount Everest, Tso Rolpa Lake, breathtaking waterfalls, ancient monasteries and glaciers add to the joy of trekking in the region. It is supposed that the human-like creature Yeti lives here. Although several expeditions to search for the mysterious creature have been in vain, villagers have been reporting sightings of the great beast every now and then.

Rolwaling valley is also known as the seven hidden valleys in the Himalayas. The indigenous people call the valley “the grave” probably because it is burrowed between enormous snow capped mountains on either side. On the way lie villages belonging to the Sherpas, Tamang and Chhetri communities.

During the trek you would be required to cross many high passes such as the Kongma La, Cho-La and Renjo-la pass. Trekkers would also visit the Na Gaun, a village located at the highest altitude region of the entire trek. The maximum elevation that trekkers would climb to is 5,545m at Kalapatthar. The duration of the trek is 22 days. The trek entails climbing to Gokyo RI peak (5360m) and walking past the quaint Sherpa villages. The trek is full of adventurous journeys into the heart of Nepal’s most remote places.

Likewise, Trekkers are expected to bring their own mountaineering equipment. There is no provision for providing mountaineering equipment during the trek. Those who aren’t physically fit to endure the stress of the journey are advised against going on this trek.

Day 1
Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu

After you arrive in the airport our representative will welcome you and explain the program further. There are no planned activities for the day, so check into the hotel. Enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2
Preparation for trek and Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour

Touring the World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley that includes: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Pasupatinath Temple. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 3
Drive Kathmandu to Sigatte (1020m/3345ft) Duration: 7-8 hrs

We take a jeep from Kathmandu to Sigatte. We pass the scenic green hills and views of white glittering mountains will keep you engaged all along the way. On our way, we pay our visit to Bhimeswor Temple in Dolakha. After an hour’s rough road drive, we reach to our campsite on the bank of the Tama Kosi River. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4
Sigatte - Jagat (1250m/4100ft) Duration: 5-6 hrs

The trial follows deep into the Bhote Kosi’s valley. We pass a flat river through terrace fields, hamlets and picturesque villages. We walk through a dense rhododendron forest and cross a suspension bridge to Jagat. The views of the Gaurishanker (7145m) on the way through forest is mind-blowing. We can see the area adorned with prayer flags and chortens though it is a Hindu settlement area. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Day 5
Jagat - Simigaon (2025m/6643ft), 5-6 hrs

After two and a half hours walk, we leave the valley and continue to the east. The trial makes a steep ascent to Simigaon, a Sherpa and Tamang village. We pass various terrace fields along the village. Tibetan monastery perched above the houses on top of the hill in front of Gaurishanker marks the Buddhist lifestyle of the area. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6
Simigaon - Donga (2800m/9185ft) Duration: 5-6 hrs

Today, we pass through a rhododendron-bamboo forest and enter the Rolwaling valley. The path steadily climbs towards Gyalche and eventually descends back down to the river. We set up our camp on the bank of Rolwaling Khola, a narrow green belt beneath Gaurishanker. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 7
Donga - Beding (3690m/12105ft) Duration: 5-6 hrs

We continue trek through the forest with an excellent mountain scenery surrounding us. Upon our arrival at Beding, we can see Melungtse I (7181m), Rolwaling highest summit. Beding is a small village well known amongst Everest summiteers.You can see an old historical Buddhist Monastery in the center of the village. We set up a camp in bank of the river in Beding for an overnight halt. Overnight at tented camp v, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 8
Beding Rest and acclimatization day: Malung Kharka hike: 5-6 hrs

We can hike to the Malung La pass (5616m). It will help with acclimatization. The spectacular views of more than fifteen snowy peaks, glaciers and the natural forest in the Beding Valley can be rewarding. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 9
Beding - Na: (4185m/13750ft) Duration: 5-6 hrs

We take a short walk from Beding along the riverside trial to the village of Na. Na village is situated just below the Tsho Rolpa Glacier Lake in a beautiful valley. The views of the peaks like Chobutse (6685m), Chugimago (6259m) and Yalung Ri (5630m) from here are pretty impressive. We set up a camp at a vantage point near the Sherpa village. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 10
Rest and acclimatization day in Na – Yalung La hike: 4-5 hrs

We can either take a rest or go for an excursion to the Yalung La pass. We climb up steadily as the path takes us to a vast amphitheatre at 4900m which is situated just below the pass. The view of Ramdun peak ice fall which furrows with streams is amazing. We get stunning views in every direction: Yalung Glacier in the east, Ramdung Peak (5930m) in the south, Yalung Ri (5630m) in the west and some of the breathtaking Himalayan views to the north along the Tibetan border. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 11
Na - Nyiduk Kongma (4750m/15582) Duration: 5-6hrs

We climb up to the dam that holds back the Tsho-Rolpa lake to prevent it from splitting the thin moraine and destroying the valleys below. We continue along the south bank. (The ancient route, marked on all maps, following the northern bank and passing through Chobu, after a 300m climb, we cross a disordered moraine area and scramble down the height we walked up. We set a campsite in a sandy amphitheatre, between the Tsho Rolpa and Trakarding glaciers. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 12
Nyiduk Kongma - Drolumbau Glacier (5205m/17075) Duration: 5 -6 hrs

Trek to the Trakarding glacier. Trakarding is a huge, impressive rocky area that gives way to large sections of bluish ice from time to time. We struggle towards a rocky spur, beneath the Dolumbau glacier and climb up a rock face We set up a rope for the porters to help them to scramble up the 160m before accessing the campsite area .Views of countless streams running off the glacier, falling rocks and collapsing ice from the glacier are interesting. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 13
Drolumbau Glacier - Tashi Laptsa pass (5755m/18820ft) and decent to Camp (5460m/17,912ft) Duration: 6 -7 hrs

The route to Drolumbau glacier is tricky and fairly steep but our efforts will be rewarded by the spectacular views of Tengi Ragi Tau (6943m), Bigphero-Go Shar (6729m), Dragkar-Go (6793m) with the views of various peaks towards and beyond the Tibetan border in the background. Cross glacial areas and head towards the summit. We set up a camps 300m below the summit beyond an impressive rocky section. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 14
Camp - Thame (3805m/12482) Duration: 5-6 hrs

Today’s walk is relatively easy as we make a descend to Thame. We visit a picturesque monastery perched on the hillside just before entering the tiny Sherpa village of Thame. Thame is an important route for all the Tibetan traders and their yak caravans as they trek across the Nangpa La (5716m/18,752) on the Tibetan border to Namche Bazaar and beyond. Overnight at tented camp or trekking lodge , breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 15
Short and easy hike to Namche Bazar (3440m/11283ft) Duration: 3-4 hrs.

We take short hike to Namche Bazar. Overnight at trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 16
Relax and hike to Everest view hotel

We will hike to Syangboche Airport (3700m), supposed to be the highest airport in the world, then continue climbing to Everest View Hotel for great panoramic views of the Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache etc. On the way back, we visit Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. Overnight at trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 17
Trek to Lukla (2800m/9184ft) Duration: 7 hours

The trek continues along the Dudh Kosi River to the small mountain airstrip at Lukla, where you will catch your return flight to Kathmandu. Overnight at trekking lodge, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 18
Fly back to Kathmandu

30-minutes amazing scenic fly back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included and attend dinner program arranged by our company.

Day 19
Leisure day

Spend the day in Kathmandu, to rest or to explore, as per your inclination. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.

Day 20
Farewell

Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight we will drop you to the airport.

Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass trekking is beneficial in term of Health gain. You are likely to lose some fats and get better breathing capacity and get greater heart endurance. Makalu Base Camp Trek is worthy for awesome adventure also. You can thrive with views of the Mt. Ghauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, Mount Everest, Tso Rolpa Lake, breathtaking waterfalls, ancient monasteries and glaciers add to the joy of trekking in the region. and you can be benefited with the presence of Bouddhist that are followed by mix Tibetan tribes.

Trekking Group Size

We organize trekking in Khumbu region for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members ) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.

Experience and Health Requirements

Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass trekking is considered a strenuous trek suitable for those who can hike for 5 – 8 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching Rolwaling. No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.

Travel Insurance

Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide travelling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the travelling insurance from one of the international insurance companies. Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.

Accommodations

Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability ) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.

Meals

Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha trekking. They can enjoy wide variety of food from typical Nepali food,Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian.). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise AdventureTrek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel / lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges / hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.

Acclimatization

Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physically fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly specially in the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it.

Equipment and Packing List

A variety of clothing is necessary for the Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers need give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

All trekking staff of Sunrise Adventure Trek are locally employed and have the adequate knowledge about culture, ecosystem, flora, fauna, geography, history and the safety measures in running the trips. Porter Care

We are strongly committed to the porters rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, foot ware and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of sever condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.

Season

Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Khumbu region are Spring (March – May) and Autumn (mid Sept. – mid Dec. ). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February.

In case of being sick in the mountain, Sunrise Adventure Trek will make proper arrangements rescue by helicopter, for this you should have better travel insurance. If our guide and porters may suffer from sickness, they have also travel and medical insurance and we will also rescue by helicopter.

    • 3. What about guide & porter, do they have well training?

      Guides and potters provided to our guests had complete accomplishment of several trainings required for their professions by the Ministry of Nepal Tourism. Having well experience in tourism sector as a guide or potter, make easy to explain all the information required for trekking and can create very familiar environment to the guests.

    • 4. What about communication system during trek?

      As all the porters and guides are well certified by the Ministry of Nepal tourism they can easily understand and speak English language during the trek. On the other hand, we can also provide you guides and potters according to your own understanding language.

    • 5. Do I need to give tips to guide and potter and if how much?

      It’s difficult to mention about tipping, but guides and potters do expect the tips at the end of the trip. However, normally people can give minimum 10% of their total payment to the guide and porter.

    • 6. What kind of food, drinking water and accommodation do we have on Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass trek?

      Trek to Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass with Sunrise Adventure Trek includes trekking lodges or guest houses as accommodation with twin bed sharing room, if you are in a group and if you are solo traveler, you have private room.  Regarding meals, we will have some options to choose like: continental foods, Italian, Indian and Chinese cuisine etc. For drinking water, you can buy the mineral bottles or safe drinking water from hotel either you can bring water tablets.

    • 7. How many hours should I walk per day and what happened if I am a slow walker in the group?

      Normally, we have to walk around 5 to 7 hours per day, if you are slow in walk the team leader will professionally manage to you walking with our assistance guide and potter.
